Morag Catriona MacDougal Full Name: Morag Catriona MacDougal Birth Date: 11th November 1979 Blood Line: Halfblood Place of Education: Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw Years Attended: 1991-1998 Wand: 9 inches, holly with dragon heartstring Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Pet:Black cat called Gaia. Personality: Morag was placed in Ravenclaw for a good reason. She possesses the 'ready mind' that Rowena Ravenclaw cherished, and even from a young age was constantly looking for answers. Her first word was, in fact, not 'mummy' or 'daddy' as expected, but 'why?' - much to the consternation of her parents who had to put up with several weeks of constantly being asked 'why?' As soon as she learnt to read, Morag always had her head buried in a book. As a child she was never very picky and would read anything that was put infront of her - fact or fiction. She devoured the Nancy Drew mysteries, the Famous Five books and the Mallory Towers series that her mother had passed down to her, and she also read all the wizarding fairytales that had formed such a formative part of her fathers' childhood. She read about Muggle and Wizarding history; the World Wars - battles fought in the trenches and on the fields of Belgium and France - and the First War against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
Morag exudes a quiet confidence. She is confident in, and puts a huge amount of thought into, absolutely everything she does, weighing out the advantages and disadvantages before making a final decision. Perhaps this is why she is so suited for her work in the Committee on Experimental Charms. She is curious by nature, and has a wide selection of reference books both at her desk at work, and at home. She will often research something she has heard about in conversation, or is made reference to in a novel, however obscure, for weeks or months on end. Morag has an almost insatiable lust for arcane knowledge and will rarely take no for an answer. She has pet obsessions, which changes almost weekly. She can come across as quiet and secretive, because she is often loathe to share her research with anyone, in case they don't share her passion for it. (And very few people are quite as passionate about the intricacies of goblin politics as Morag)
Appearance: Morag is constantly told by friends and family that she is the spitting image of her mother, which she considers to be no bad thing. She is slightly smaller than her willowy mother, however, standing at 5'7 in her bare feet. She also inherited her mother's svelte figure and impressive metabolism. Although Morag likes to run and occasionally plays golf and Quidditch to relax, she doesn't actually work out, as such. Morag has brown eyes and wavy brown hair, which falls below her shoulders. She generally wears her hair up in a ponytail for work, keeping it out of the way, however, when she is at home Morag likes to let her hair down - in both senses of the phrase. She has the typically pale skin of a Scot and has to be extremely careful in the sun as she burns easily. Morag has rather full lips and absolutely perfect teeth (thanks to her father, who always drilled into her the importance of good dental hygiene). She is meticulous when it comes to her wardrobe, preferring to stick to classic styles, cuts and colours than to try something new. She knows what looks good on her and tends to stick closely to that. PB: Anne Hathaway
History: Lewis MacDougal came from a long line of pureblood wizards, many of whom were affiliated with the Dark Lord and had been branded with the Mark. He, however, had always differed from his parents and siblings and had left home as soon as he had graduated from Hogwarts (where he had been a disappointment to his family because he was placed in Ravenclaw and not Slytherin) moving to London to study to become a Healer. He paid his own way through this and when he qualified it was the happiest day of his life (up until that point). Lewis started work in the Spell Damage ward and his work soon became his life. That was until a young Muggle, by the name of Charlotte Palose was admitted after a Death Eater attack on a busy street of Birmingham, where she worked as a lawyer. Lewis had always considered love at first sight, something only to be read about in those romance novels his younger sister Catherine had devoured from such a young age, and yet here he was, unable to take his eyes off the tall, brunette he was supposed to be healing. Once she was discharged from the hospital, Lewis took his chance and asked her out. Three years later they were married, with a baby on the way. After the wedding they decided that they would really like to raise their family up in Scotland, near where Lewis had been born. So, shortly after the wedding, the pair bought a house on the outskirts of Aberfeldy, near the Cairngorm mountains, from where Lewis would apparate to work every morning. Morag Catriona MacDougal was born one blustery November evening. She was the eldest of three girls. The twins, Sine and Isobel being born two years afterwards.
Even as a small child it became obvious that Morag had inherited her father's magical abilities, with her astounding both parents as she vanished her brussel sprouts one Christmas dinner, when she was just six years old. Her Hogwarts letter came as no surprise to anyone, then, and it was with great excitement and trepidation that Lewis took his daughter to Hogsmeade to meet the other first years and travel to Hogwarts. The sorting hat had barely touched Morag's head when it announced to the Great Hall that she would be spending the next seven years in Ravenclaw house, like her father. This delighted Morag, and made Lewis extremely proud at the same time. From the moment she started Ravenclaw felt like a second home to Morag, she fit right in with her other housemates and soon made fast friends with many of them. She also made friends with several of her classmates, particularly the Hufflepuffs (the Gryffindors she considered too brash and too hasty when making important decisions, although she always admired Hermione Granger for her brain, and she couldn't quite bring herself to trust the Slytherins, many of whom looked down on her because of her mother's blood). Her close friendship with her Padma, Michael, Terry and Anthony, did not mean that Morag was informed about Dumbledore's Army (and even if she had been, she is unsure as to whether or not she would have joined) and instead, she spent her fifth year doing independent study, and trying to pass her OWLS (which she did with flying colours).
Her sixth year was relatively quiet until the night Dumbledore died and Death Eaters stormed the castle. It was the one thing Morag had not been expecting, and it changed her stance on the War drastically. Where previously she had been neutral, now she was passionately anti-Voldemort. She had been one of the many whom had idolised Dumbeldore, and she had cried openly at his funeral. The summer after Dumbledore's death was a strange one for Morag, she tried to keep up-to-date with what was happening in the Wizarding World, but found that she couldn't trust what she read in the Daily Prophet. The Muggleborn Registry was the one thing that made her realise that the Ministry had fallen - she disagreed with it completely and couldn't help but wonder how many of her friends wouldn't be returning to Hogwarts for their final year.
Morag's final year was something of a shock. Snape was headmaster, the Carrows were professors and Crucio was an accepted way of dealing with 'troublemakers'. For the first time that she could remember, Morag was unhappy at Hogwarts. She tried her best to keep her head down and just get on with her schoolwork, but found that she couldn't ignore certain things. It took her friend Michael's torture, for freeing a first year that the Carrows had chained up, to really open her eyes, though, and make Morag determined to act. By acting out, however, she attracted unwanted attention and was tortured by Crabbe and Goyle, after being put on detention for refusing to crucio a third year, who had dared to disagree with Alecto. After this, Morag was offered refuge in the Room of Requirement with several members of Dumbledore's Army. Whilst there, more and more people started to arrive, and soon the room was full of people all of whom seemed to be waiting for one thing - Harry Potter. They all whispered his name reverently, determined that he would turn up and there would be a revolution. Morag, whom had never been close to the Boy Who Lived, was a little sceptical, but she kept it to herself. Hence, why she was so surprised, when one evening Neville disappeared to the Hog's Head, only to return with Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
Before she really knew what was happening, the battle had started and Morag found herself facing fully-grown Death Eaters, who knew spells she could only dream of. Somehow, though, she found herself coping much better than she could have possibly hoped to. Her father was one of the people who was summoned by Charlie Weasley and Professor Slughorn, and he returned to Hogwarts to fight alongside his daughter. Unfortunately, at some point just before midnight, Morag was hit by a sectumsempra by the Death Eater she was duelling and was pulled aside by Professor Slughorn, whom did his best to stop the bleeding. Fortunately his best was good enough, and Morag suffered no lasting damage save for a few faint scars across her stomach.
Morag doesn't really remember much after Harry beat Voldemort, the days following the battle are all a blur of tears, hugs and funerals. Morag doesn't ever want to go to another funeral in her life, believing that she's been to enough for a lifetime. Once things had settled down Morag returned to Hogwarts to sit her final exams, which she also passed with flying colours. Once she had done this, Morag decided that she needed a break and so her mother and father both took some time off from their work and took the entire family (including the twins, who had never received Hogwarts letters) on holiday to Portugal for a couple of weeks. When the time came to return home Morag found that she didn't particularly want to, and instead took her savings and decided to travel for a while. Morag spent a couple of months travelling around Europe, spending the majority of that time in Germany. Whilst in Germany Morag became acquainted with several German witches and wizards, whom she is still in contact with. Morag decided to leave Europe at the end of November, wanting to spend Christmas in a warmer climate. Morag bought an atlas from a small Muggle shop on the outskirts of Koblenz and chose a country at random. That was how she found herself spending Christmas day alone in a large hotel room in Singapore. Morag enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the metropolis, and lost herself in it for a long time before she was finally persuaded, after several months, to return home for her sister Sine's wedding to her high school sweetheart.
It was at this wedding that Morag meant Ian; a cousin of the groom. The pair of them spent the entire reception talking and dancing and by the end of the night she had agreed to let him take her out the following week. This quickly blossomed into what was Morag's first 'real' relationship (she had dated briefly at Hogwarts but nothing quite like this) and after six months of dating, during which Morag pretended to be Muggle and found a job at a Muggle newspaper, Ian asked her to move in with him. This was a wake-up call for Morag; she knew that she was in love with this man and that she needed to come clean with him. So, one evening, she sat him down in his living room and explained all about Hogwarts, magic and everything that she could do. Ian didn't take it quite as well as she had hoped, throwing her out of the house and telling her to never contact him again.
After this Morag was heartbroken but determined that she would never let the same thing happen again. She also realised that she belonged in the Wizarding world and so immediately left her job at the newspaper and began applying for more appropriate jobs, and it wasn't long until she was offered one in the Committee on Experimental Charms.
Now, Morag has her own flat in Edinburgh, is very happy with her work but is still single. Political alliance and reason for this choice: Ministry. Morag works for the Ministry and has been a follower of Kingsly Shaklebolt since the end of the War. Anything else: Morag has several faint scars tracing across her stomach, an eternal reminder of the final battle at Hogwarts where so many good people died. She speaks fluent German, having picked it up during her time in Germany. Morag also speaks bits and pieces of various other languages including Spanish and Malay, although wishes she could speak more languages more fluently. She is allergic to wasp and bee stings, and if stung must be rushed to hospital immediately. Morag always keeps a bar of milk chocolate in her desk drawer, a habit formed whilst still at Hogwarts. She uses the chocolate to reward and motivate herself when working. Is something of a commitmentphobe - is scared of letting people get too close to her in case she gets hurt again, although very few people know about this.
